SA3FlashTexts

Flash Texts are an aesthetic feature in Stick Adventure 3: Stick RPG Remix. They are present on the Status and Ability screens, which can be found via the Escape Menu.

Upon entering either menu, all non-empty character slots are given a random flash text, which is displayed on the bottom line. If any given character slot is empty upon entering the menu, "-" will instead be displayed. A new flash text is generated each time the player enters either the Party or Abilities screens. There are currently 150 flash texts, with 50 more being added in every demo. Flash texts are not canon in the Stick Adventure story and are meant as a purely humorous addition to the game.

(Currently, Demo 2 is the latest public version of the game. However, for consistency's sake, I'll also be adding the ones currently within Demo 3.)

(Note: Eventually, there are going to be a lot more pages on SA3Remix. When that happens eventually, I'm going to want to link the pages back and fourth. But since I don't have the pages to link to yet, I'm just linking them anyway, and when I create those pages, the links should line up...)

List of Flash Texts Edit

There are three "categories" that flash texts can be sorted into. Original jokes, references and "programmed".

Jokes Edit

These flashes are just silly ones I thought of on the fly. They don't reference any particular thing, although a lot of them are puns on existing phrases and figures of speech.

- Has pizzaz!

- D00d, u have n00b statz!

-- This is a play on how younger kids who somehow have unblocked access to the internet tend to type whenever someone who knows slightly less about a video game than they do shows up on a forum or the like. I can't stand it, but somehow, it's funny when I make a joke of it...

- Preoccupied!

- Cause I'm bad like that!

- The TRUE team player!

- Full of it!

-- As in, bologna.

- D-Don't... die...!

-- A parody of the typical sort of line you might see in an overly-serious anime.

- Clearly the weakest!

- The Thane of Darkness!

- -~^_^~-

-- Yes, it's just a silly emoticon.

- Treads heavily!

-- A play on the phrase, "tread lightly". Sorta also a little stab at those "Don't tread on me" flags some people hang up. I still don't understand what those are about.

- Workin' on it!

- "Special"!

- Creates all the feels!

- Possibly infected!

- Champion matador!

-- For you uncultured folks: A matador is a bullfighter.

- One good-lookin' goose!

- Sickeningly cute!

-- Made this one right after I finished programming the game to be able to spawn Petal in battle. Note that I did this REALLY early on, knowing I would be using her later on (She was unfinished back then). In Demo 3, I've given her actual stats, spells, voice clips, etc. Trivia!

- Has a decent fashion sense!

-- Haha, silly Buster. Stick people don't wear clothes... (Except Yurimoto (headband), Petal (skirt), the dude with the jeans and yellow shirt... Everyone but Stick, basically? Hmm.)

- Yes, there are hundreds of these!

-- Actually not true (There's only 150 right now), but certainly will be eventually. Demo 4 will have exactly 200 flash texts, to be precise. So yeah.

- There are way too many of these!

-- Not true, there are not enough.

- Nothin' special here!

-- Can be in direct contradiction with '"Special"!' if that flash happens to pop up on another character...

- Never allows breaks!

- Call them sometime!

-- Believe it or not, this is NOT meant to be a reference to Carly Rae Jepson's "Call Me Maybe". I would have put, "Call them maybe!" instead of "sometime" if I were trying to reference that. :p

- In need of a spitshine!

- Hard to write gender-neutral stuff!

-- I don't have a system to define a character's gender, so since Petal exists as a playable character, I have to write everything in a way that doesn't reference a particular gender... but to be grammatically correct, I'd have to use "him/her", which not only takes up a lot of my limited space to work with, but it also just looks stupid. So, despite it being technically incorrect, I just use "their" in place of "his" or "her". :p Deal with it.

- These flash texts are not canon!

-- This statement is canon.

- Rejected Fantasy Football trade!

- Definitely a liar!

- What a prick!

- The chances of seeing this is low!

-- It's a 1 in 150 chance. And it gets exponentially lower with each new flash I add to the game...

- A skiing chickadee!

-- This is an inside joke that nobody would understand, not even the internet, so I'm not putting it in with the reference category...

- Don't mess with their crystal ball!

-- Also just random, no reference here.

- Isn't a Nazi!

- Means no harm!

- Does flashy moves!

- Had better be more careful!

- They pick you up!

-- Another inside joke. My dog thinks I'm trying to play a game whenever I try to pick her up or go for a hug, so she runs away and I chase her around saying I JUST want to pick you up~! And I treat it like I'm the monster in a horror movie. Anyway.

- A monkey's uncle!

- One small step for stickman!

-- Get it? Get it?? :D

- Always wanted to be a dancer!

- Insert reference here!

-- Wasn't sure if I should put this one here or in the references category, but since it doesn't really reference anything at all, I guess it belongs here (Though it could be argued that it is paradoxically referring to itself, what with how many of the flash texts are references...).

- OH, WOW!

- A powerful fighter!

- Annoying like a fly!

- The worst at sucking!

-- Get your mind out of the gutter! It means, "the worst at NOT being awesome"!

- Makes a difference!

- Makes no promises! ;)

- The "Chosen One"!

- Has funk breathe!

- Makes dirt look shiny!

- Makes us all proud!

- Not in 3D!

-- Mostly, this is the game making fun of itself because it knows the whole stick people graphics thing is considered really bad. xD

- How's THAT for a lazor!? >:D

-- I'm a-firin' mah lazor? Kinda. But it's not what I had in mind at the time of writing. :p

- Comes in peace!

-- Might've been a reference to Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story, but it's really more of a generic alien thing to say. :/

- Has good aim!

- #100; Folder so laggy! Good fun!

-- This is the 100th flash text I created. The Stagecast software drops to around 5 FPS when the window that contains all of these is open, and drops to 1 FPS if I try to do anything TO that window. I love it.

- Perfectly ultimate destiny and light!

-- A parody of the type of things you hear a lot in fantasy JRPGs.

- Has no reflection in the mirror...?

-- Trivia: so far the only flash text not to end in an exclamation point, besides certain ones that just have punctuation... This is in reference to the idea that vampires are sometimes thought to not show a reflection in mirrors.

- This is #84!

-- I got lazy for a second while getting up to 100, what can I say...

- Gives up easily!

- Kinda barfy ugly!

- All bark and no bite!

- Hasn't got a clue!

- Try checking the rules sometime!

-- While at first this may seem like a snide insult, it's actually a message to other people who use Stagecast Creator (In Stagecast, you "program" by creating what the software calls "rules". I had to make a separate rule for each individual flash text, and I labelled them based on what they were about. So that's one way to get reference clarification...)

- Who could it be?

- Loves banana pudding!

-- One of my favorite desserts in real life.

- Forget about it, it's an inside joke!

-- I put this here not only because there are actually one or two inside jokes within the flash texts, but also to put at ease the people who didn't get any particular reference... Because it may cut back on the amount of people I have to explain to someday. (You know, those pesky ghost players)

- Forgets important details!

- Secretly somewhat illiterate!

-- The joke here is that I used some moderately big words to say it, I guess.

- for finding this!

-- I'm not allowed to comment on this one. If a (ghost) fan ever finds out why, feel free to post it somewhere, but I'm not giving it away! :)

- Lines the streets!

- Runs for the hills! ...Sometimes!

- Hunts heads, but only cute ones!

- Is the protagonist!

- You say that, but...

- Trying their best!

- Doesn't go to bed on time!

-- This one comes from my experience... :(

- Makes the world go round!

- Almost there!

- She said yes!

-- Trivia: See how that works for both genders? ;D If it appears on a male character, it's like if he asked a girl to marry him. If it's on a female character, it's more broad, but it still works. I guess the trick is that it doesn't define what "she" said yes to. :p

- They are kidding you!

- Never touches that dial!

-- You know how right before old TV shows cut to commercial, the host would say, "Don't touch that dial!"? Well, for you kids who don't know, this is what TV remotes used to look like back in the day.

- Can play an instrument, maybe!

- Leads the bad guys to their camp!

-- One time, some kid on a Minecraft server led a troll to my base, and next time I logged in, everything was destroyed and there was lava everywhere. The only thing they left was some unintelligible sign saying that they had destroyed my base and that the kid had led him there. -_-;

- Spels badlee!

- Doesn't care for political issues!

- Doesn't grief servers!

- Buying time!

- Is afraid not!

References Edit

Flashes that are referencing some kind of video game, TV show, internet meme, or anything else, really. No matter how subtle.

- First mankind all over the world!

-- This is a reference to Pokémon Vietnamese Crystal.

- No zombie is safe!

-- This is a reference to this wall writing from Left 4 Dead 2.

- Rolled Jumanji!

-- Obviously a reference to the movie Jumanji, which is about a board game in which a certain roll of the dice is called a "Jumanji". If you roll it, I think you win the game or something...

- No partner; Plenty of stickers!

-- This is a reference to the 3DS game, Paper Mario: Sticker Star. Those of you familiar with the series knows that partner characters are a series staple. However, Sticker Star is the first game to lack them in any form. I didn't really like the game... So I made a scathing flash text about it in my independant ameteur video game.

- Team Jacob!

-- This is a Twilight reference. More specifically, a reference to the Twilight fan-base's constant in-fighting over which fantasy boy is better. No further comments...

- Switches feet!

-- A reference to the band Switchfoot, which was/is one of my favorite bands.

- Norris getting chucked!

-- If you don't get this reference, you deserve to get punch in the face by Chuck Norris.

- HOOWAAAAAH!!!

-- This is what I think Mario sounds like when he uses his Final Smash in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Upon listening to it through headphones while playing Smash for 3DS, turns out it's more of a generic "hi-yah!". Whatever, that's what I heard it as for many years, and I like it much better. Fits the character better! :p

- Took an arrow to the knee!

-- You either get this reference, or you don't. There is no in-between. For the rest of you, it's from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

- Owner of the red spellbook!

-- This is a reference to Zatch Bell, known in Japan as Konjiki no Gash Bell. Go watch the Japanese version with English subtitles, it's a really cool series, but the official English version got horribly censored...

- Their body is ready!

-- Reggie Fils-Aime, president of Nintendo of America, has his own meme!

- Pig's Butt... No, no, Ness!

-- An Earthbound reference. I would have had it display the character's name instead of "Ness", but I thought maybe this particular line wasn't as memorable for others as it was for me, so I kept Ness' name just in case people didn't know what it was from. :p

- Fink rat!

-- A reference to Fawful from Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga.

- Pie-flavored pie!

-- I guess a somewhat obscure reference, but it's to asdf movie 2.

- Most likely to become a Boomer!

-- Another Left 4 Dead reference.

- Won the Reaper's Game!

-- This is a reference to The World Ends With You for the Nintendo DS. A seriously great action-RPG.

- The very most mega!

-- It's quite subtle, but this is a Mega Man reference. My brother loves Mega Man, so I put it in as an easter egg for him, mostly. xD

- Pocket sized!

-- A subtle Pokémon reference. Pokémon is short for "Pocket Monsters", you know.

- Fights magic with mystery!

-- A reference to the supernatural murder-mystery visual novel, Umineko no Naku Koro Ni, or, "When the Seagulls Cry". I recommend checking it out, it's pretty legit. B/

- Plays ocarina all the time!

-- A reference to The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

- Don't hurt them no mo'!

-- A reference to a song that has since become an internet meme... I don't even know what it's called, but if you know the song, you'll recognize this, most likely...

- CRAAAZY!!!

-- A reference to Crazy Taxi. In particular, the voice that plays when you get the Crazy rank at the end of a game. :p

- Has a heart fit for a king!

-- A Kingdom Hearts reference. But I'll admit that Nintendo Power beat me to this one. I just stole it. (R.I.P. Nintendo Power)

- That's no moon!

-- A reference to a somewhat famous line said by Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars.

- It's okay, I'm the thane!

-- Another Skyrim reference, though it's a bit subtle. In the game, you can get away with crimes by telling the guards you're the thane of the city you're in (but only if you actually ARE the thane...).

- Picks men in RTS games!

-- A Pimin reference. It's a Real-Time Strategy in which you pick the plant-like Pikmin from the ground... So yeah.

- Feels groove!

-- Another Earthbound reference, to Mr. Saturn in specific.

- Never gonna give you up!

-- This is a Rick Roll. I literally programmed a Rick Roll into the game.

- Kills Dumbledore!

-- Reference to the internet meme version of spoilers. (Snape kills Dumbledore!) By now, I think everybody knows Snape kills Dumbledore, and I haven't even seen the Harry Potter MOVIES, let alone read the books. Every few years, I see somebody who doesn't know what "an internet" is and gets all pissy about the spoiler on YouTube or whatever. :p

- Can't find any diamonds!

-- Minecraft.

- FlUx AnD fLoW!

-- This is a reference to an electronic song where a woman is singing this line over and over. I used to hear it on the radio sometimes. :p

- It's a bird! It's a plane!

-- Most people recognize this as the Superman reference that it is.

- Clicks circles and sliders!

-- A reference to one of my favorite PC rhythm games, osu!. It's adapted from a Nintendo DS game, known in America as Elite Beat Agents. You have to click on circles and hold on sliders to the beat of the music. Sounds simple, but it's super fun, and gets REALLY hard.

- Never been to Boston in the fall!

-- This is a reference to The Pirate Who Don't Do Anything.

- "Suspect NBA, ram 'im!!"

-- Reference to Need For Speed: Undercover. I'm not sure exactly what the cops are saying, but it sounds like NBA to me. :p The cops are so funny in that game.

- There's 150 or more to see!

-- First and foremost a reference to the PokéRap, but also happens to be the 150th flash text I created. So that works out.

- Smashes brothers!

-- You'd have to not know what Super Smash Bros. was to not get this reference.

- Stuck at home!

-- Homestuck. A really creative and awesome web comic. READ IT! (A bit NSFW, though)

- Yet another Flappy Bird clone!

-- Does everyone still remember the Flappy Bird fiasco? And how there are probably a hundred clones of it out there nowadays? Sheeeeesh.

- Featured in nope.avi!

-- I'm not sure if "nope.avi" is an actual meme, or just something my brother made up. I think he made it up, so I'll put it in this category... EDIT: Google is my friend. Turns out it's a real meme. Moving to the references category now that I know what it is! Lol.

- H...a...p...p...y...!

-- Yet another Earthbound reference. (Why does Google images turn up NO results of the line in question!?)

- AAHAAHAAHAA!!!

-- A reference to the famous Final Fantasy X forced laughter scene.

- An inclined commander!

-- Commander Kleine reference. Not sure if that's even the correct spelling, I know nothing about the character/series that he's from. All I know is, this is what I think of whenever I hear the name. xD

- Their struggle is real!

-- "The struggle is real" is one of those text-based internet memes that you see all the time in Twitch.tv chatrooms...

- Not as cute/epic as Ruby!

-- In reference to the incredible web series, RWBY. WATCH IT NOW. And don't skip the "trailers", either, they are awesome, and they're actually canon, too, so they're worth watching.

- "Is mayonnaise an instrument?"

-- A great line from a Spongebob Squarepants episode.

- Skanz bar codes for treasure!

-- Referring to Skannerz, an old handheld video game/toy, created during the most prominent time when EVERYBODY was trying to rip off Pokemon. But it was actually really fun as a kid. You scanned bar codes, and each one would consistently give you either a monster to fight/capture, or an item. The idea was executed pretty well, but it didn't really age well, I think. I would post a link, but there's no website, and it would be weird to post an eBay or Amazon search results link. Just remember it's spelled "Skannerz" if you wanna look for one. :p

- They are love! they are life!

-- Another text-based meme that I see overused in Twitch chats.

- Eats ghosts!

-- A Pac-Man reference. When he was announced as a playable character in the new Super Smash Bros., I figured I had to make a Pac-Man reference somewhere.

- Believes they can fly!

-- Reference to the song, "I Believe I Can Fly". :p

- If they had a guitar, it would weep!

-- Reference to the Beatles song, "While My Guitar Gently Weeps".

- Likes using Palms in Uprising!

-- A reference to Kid Icarus: Uprising for the 3DS. I like using Palms, which are one of the many weapon types in the game.

- Be careful, it's a trap!

-- No, not the Admiral Akbar meme. It's actually referring to Peppy's line in Star Fox 64, during the Meteo level. Peppy has so many lines that have become memes, this one just gets lost in the undertow. I couldn't find an image of the actual line, is what I'm trying to say. :p

Programmed Edit

Some flash texts will change dynamically based on certain conditions, such as displaying the character's name or checking to see if some character-specific value meets a certain threshold.

- You're only level [x]!?

-- Where [x] is, obviously, the character's level.

- Only [x] Defense? Lol, Game Over..

-- Where [x] is, of course, the character's Defense stat. Trivia, I didn't have room for a third dot in the ellipses... So annoying. :(

- Use that Limit Break!

-- Only appears when the character's Limit Gauge is at 100% (Sooo Coool!)

- [x]-chan, fightto!!

-- [x] is the character's name. As for the content... Let's just call it a reference to Japanese culture...?

- [Character's name repeated over and over with no spaces in between, overflowing the text box. Example: StickStickStickStickStickSti]

-- The script just pastes the character's name a few too many times to make sure even the shortest names will still overflow. This also doubles as an Earthbound reference. (I have an image this time!)

- [x] from StateFarm!

-- [x] is the character's name. Doubles as a reference to the "Jake from StateFarm" commercial, which has become something of a meme. I can't guarantee the character is wearing khaki's, though.
